Organizing My Father's World First Grade Proverbs

At the start of this 2013-2014 school year, I learned a lot from Heatheraine Trim's blog post about organizing our curriculum - My Father's World First Grade (Learning God's Story).  I took some of her ideas and made them my own.  In this post I'd like to share how I organized the weekly Proverbs for memorization.

My Father's World uses mostly the NIV versions of these Proverbs, but I wanted my children to learn the same version as their own Bibles, since they'd be looking them up in their Bibles.  They have the International Children's Bible.  So, I created Handwriting Worksheets with the ICB version.  I didn't prefer a few of the verses in the ICB version, so I just had them learn the NIV version that week.

Then I printed all the worksheets and put them into a DUO-TANG folder (the kind you can put 3 hole punched papers into the middle).  You could also use a thin three ring binder.  I created a cover page and glued them to the front.

I also created small cards for learning and display similar to those in My Father's World Kindergarten curriculum.  Here they are displayed on our cabinet. You can download the Proverbs Cover Pages and the Proverbs Handwriting Sheets and Display Cards  by clicking that link.  I created the card pages in the document so that you can print either the NIV or the ICB version. You can even print them back to back and have both versions. I found a few verses where I didn't like how the ICB said it, so I wanted the kids to learn the NIV. For the most part though, I found the ICB was easier for them to understand. For their copying of the Proverbs in ICB version I created handwriting tracing sheets. This is a PDF document, the handwriting sheets are first, with the cards at the end. I did not create NIV handwriting sheets, but if you want to make your own, I made mine at http://www.handwritingworksheets.com.

I hope someone else (maybe next year!) benefits from this as well! I will be writing more posts (hopefully!) on some other organizing ideas for this wonderful curriculum!

Thanks! We will be doing K and Ist nest year at our house so this will be great for them each to have a verse card on the wall.
